Gallstones and Gallbladder Pathology
The gallbladder is a small pear shaped organ that stays tucked in under the liver in the right upper abdomen. The main function of the gallbladder is to store concentrated bile, which is an enzyme used for digestion, especially of fatty food. Sometimes gallstones form within the gallbladder which cause significant symptoms such as right upper abdominal pain, bloating, nausea and vomiting and if severe can lead to an infection of the gallbladder necessitating an emergency surgery. Gallbladders can be removed via minimally invasive surgical techniques such as robotic-assisted cholecystectomies and laparoscopic cholecystectomies. These outpatient/inpatient procedures are done under general anesthesia.
Dr. Raghavan specializes in Robotic and laparoscopic cholecystectomies that lead to less post- operative pain and an early return to normal activities.
