Colonoscopy
This is an important screening and diagnostic procedure recommended for all patients above the age of fifty. It is usually done under sedation after an adequate bowel prep done the day before the procedure at home. A thin flexible tube with fiberoptics for visualization and channels for instrumentation is introduced into the rectum. It is guided under direct visualization by the surgeon all the way through the colon. Conditions in the colon such as colonic polyps, diverticulosis, ulcers, hemorrhoids and most importantly early colorectal cancers can be diagnosed by this procedure. Early colon cancer detection and polypectomies when required are done via colonoscopy.
Dr. Raghavan performs screening and diagnostic colonoscopies with polypectomies for colorectal cancer screening. He also performs EGDs (Esophagogastroduodenoscopies) for upper gastrointestinal conditions like gastritis, esophagitis, gastric ulcers and gastric cancers.
