Anal Fistulas And Fissure In Ano

Fistulas and fissures are more complex conditions that produce chronic irritation, pain and recurrent swellings in the perianal region. They are commonly seen after recurrent abscesses in the perianal region. There is a communication between the lower rectum and the skin around the perianal region in a fistula which leads to recurrent infections due to fecal contamination of the fistulous tract.

Anal fissure is a condition in which a tear in the thin skin in the anus leads to an ulcer which does not heal and causes significant pain and spasm during bowel movements.
